Unstable Conditions

Unstable Conditions describes situations in which balance is uncertain and the outcome remains unresolved. What appears solid proves to be temporary, while something on the verge of disappearing may simultaneously make way for something new.

Hegardt and Ågren have long explored tipping points, gravity and illusion, often with a dry, off-kilter humour that emerges when things do not behave as expected. They use recycled and recognisable everyday objects such as chairs, tables and lamps—objects that carry clear associations with use, stability and order. When brought together, both their function and their balance are displaced. The objects gather in clusters and masses, suspended in a critical moment between collapse and transformation.

The works appear as open arrangements that must be physically navigated: some dense and accumulated, others more contained, but all characterised by a state in which the outcome has yet to be determined. Unstable Conditions reflects a present shaped by increasing consumption, waste and uncertainty, without pointing towards any clear-cut solutions.

The exhibition encompasses both playfulness and seriousness, humour and excess, while also reflecting on the fragile structures of society. Visitors are invited into a space where the familiar loses its footing and where they must find their own balance.
