White Light ll, 2015

The installation was produced under the direction of Norrköpings konstmusuem /Norrköping's Museum of Art in an empty storefront as a part of the exhibition Hem Längtan - The Ideology and Aesthetics of Everyday Life.
Curator: Helena Scragg.

The artwork consists of furniture and household objects sucked into a frozen cinematic moment against intense white light. Size ratio, scale and different materials create a visual illusion. The work also has a more existential meaning. Many people who had a near-death experience have testified that they experienced a strong white light.

The installation raises the question of the value of things. According to the Western view of death, we do not take material possessions with us into the afterlife. In many ancient cultures, however, being buried with personal objects allowed the deceased to take these cherished possessions with them to the afterlife.

White Light was shown in a shop in the center of Norrköping and brings to the work questions about consumption, the concept of "wear and tear" and the life and value of objects, with a charged meaning. The first version of White Light was shown in Prosjektrom Carl Berner, Oslo 2008.
